This Week, Two Challenges

Hello all my blogging friends! This week I decided to enter my card into two challenges.

TSTR 77 and Mojo 206

Over at The Shabby Tea Room this week, the challenge is Week #77 – 'Birthstones' create a card or project inspired by the color of YOUR birthstone. My birthday is in December so my birthstone is Blue Topaz or Blue Zircon.

And over at Mojo Monday we are asked to create a card using this pattern:

Well, I just LOVE blue and this pattern is so beautifully simple and elegant I was excited to get started.

The card is designed using all shades of blue using a lot of paper scraps I had left over and some cardstock from my Mariposa matstack.  I just adore the colors of those papers!

I punched the top and bottom edge of the top background piece giving it a frilly look.

The flower paper is white cardstock that is stamped with Rubber Stamp Tapestry’s Floral Filigree Wreath Set. Anyone who reads my blog knows how much I love RST’s stamps and how much I absolutely love tapestry stamping.  It is loads of fun to create cards that are never ever exactly the same!  The medallion is made with a scrap of the pretty pastel printed paper at the bottom of the card. It is also stamped with RST stamps.

TSTR #76: 'Sweet Days of Summer'

Sweet days of summer -- the jasmine's in bloom
July is dressed up and playing her tune
And I come home from a hard day's work
And you're waitin' there
Not a care in the world -

Seals & Crofts - Summer Breeze

Are you old enough to remember that song? TSTR’s #76: 'Sweet Days of Summer' challenge this week had that song constantly running through my head! This week, we are supposed to create a card or project with handmade flowers and the colors of pink, peach, green and neutrals. The inspiration photo….

So I had a pretty song along with a pretty photo to inspire my creation this week! I had never made handmade flowers before I made this card, so my first task was just learning how to make them.  Can you believe what a newbie I am? hehe

Well, I certainly learned new stuff this week and had so much fun making my card.

I started with a soft green textured cardstock with a white core. I embossed one edge using a Cuttlebug embossing border and then lightly sanded the embossing so that the white core shows through highlighting the design. I embossed a pretty green patterned cardstock from The Mariposa matstack to form the next layer.

The Spellbinder’s medallion has a stamped border using Rubber Stamp Tapestry’s Natures Path set and is backed with a contrasting cardstock that I hand cut because I felt that the next larger one in the set was just too big.  The butterfly is colored with Copic markers.

The strip uses the same RST set but with muted colors.

I made two types of flowers for this card; two from paper and 4 with rolled rick rack. The green “leaves” are a lacy ribbon that I sprayed with green alcohol ink.

Well that is my card for this week. I hope you enjoyed it!

Polka Dots

This week’s challenge at The Shabby Tea Room is Week #75 - 'Polka Dots' using this picture as inspiration:

My card began with a creamy linen base that I bordered with Rubber Stamp Tapestry’s Tailor's Heart Set.  I used a coordinating cardstock with tiny little polka dots, both from the matstack Linen Closet.

The light blue cardstock is embosses using Sizzix Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from the Winter Set. After embossing, it was giving a coating of Pearls -Perfect Pearls and then heat embosses on top.  This gives that layer a sparkly finish.  The medallion is three cuts from Spellbinder’s Nestabilities.  Finish off with polka dot ribbon, flowers and buttons.

I hope you like my card. Please visit again soon!

Flowers Feed The Soul

If you've never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom.  ~Terri Guillemets

Rain! Finally we had some rain this morning and it has cooled off. This summer has been unbearably hot and dry so it has forced me to stay in and play in my studio more!

Today I was enjoying the wonderful cool colors outside my window and decided to use some of them in this card.  The soft greens of the bamboo, trees and even the grass appear to have lavished in the rain while the roses sparkle against the green background.

With this card you can use any colors you prefer but you can see why I used these based on my inspiration. The card base is a dark green cardstock that I heat embossed with Periwinkle Leaves Border from Rubber Stamp Tapestry.  The cream colored cardstock is embossed with any Cuttlebug or Sizzix template of your choice and then lightly rub the stamp color of your choice over it to highlight the embossing. Next cut a smaller rectangle and, using RST’s Floral Filigree Wreath Set, stamp a pretty flower border.

Finish off the card using Spellbinders Nestabilities Fleur de Lis Rectangles. Cut a small piece of the embossed green cardstock and edged it with a liquid gold fine-tip pen.

The smaller rectangle is from the smallest die in the set and edged in a metallic blue pen. The stamps are from RST’s Floral Filigree Wreath Set.

Embellish with ribbon and sticker flower and it is done

Tea for Two

It’s card challenge day for me! I am doing the card challenge at The Shabby Tea Room again this week.  The challenge is Week #74 - Tea for Two using this photo as inspiration and use a tea theme using green and blue.

I just love the colors and details in this photo!  I decided to make a matching box and card that would be perfect for giving a special tea blend to a friend!

I just LOVE Polish Pottery. The beautiful colors and exquisite details are so enchanting!  Polish Pottery was the inspiration for the box design. Using Rubber Stamp Tapestry stamps made this so easy! I used a variety of stamps from there so I cannot point to a particular set that I used.

Spellbinders Nestabilities were used for the card as well as more RST stamps.

This will make such a pretty give for someone special….Now to figure out who will get it!  Please tell me what you think.
