MWT at OWH* USE A DIGI and Mojo Monday MM230

GAH!!!! Really? A digi? Have you been reading my blog? Yes? Then you know I don’t like to color!!! *SIGH* OK I did it; I colored a digi today and maybe it came out ok. By the way, this is my second post for today. If you missed the first one, please click here.

Here is the card which was made using Mojo Monday’s MM230 sketch, however I rotated the sketch so that the digi would fit properly:

MM230

Well, actually, I tried 3 new things on this card, coloring, using vellum (yeah, LOL first time!) and using Distress Ink in my embossing folder.  I made the BG by inking the negative area of my Tim Holtz embossing folder with Peeled Paint Distress Ink and slightly spraying water on it with a mister.  I then carefully placed the paper into the folder and embossed. I used my heat tool to completely dry the paper when it came out. You could just lay it aside to let it dry, but I am impatient!

MM230_2

Those flowers are my crochet flowers; the leaves are from the starter set that comes with the Presto Punch. The ribbon is an old scrap from my stash

MM230_3

I colored the flowers with markers and then chalked where the sentiment is located. I used a Gold pen to go over the words and added “Mom” stamped in gold just above the existing sentiment. I finished it by covering with VersaMark embossing ink and SU Clear embossing powder, then heated with my heat tool.  Oh, I should say this gorgeous digi is from the free downloads at OWH!  The light strip with yellow flowers is punched using a Martha Stewart double-edge punch.

MM230_4

I added the Happy Mother’s Day sentiment on vellum and hope it was not overkill!  I had that pink vellum just begging to get on this card. The Mother’s Day stamp is from Inspired by Stamping.

NOW FOR THE CHALLENGES:

  • OWH SKETCH #110 AND HEAT EMBOSSING

Wow! Can you believe it is already Wednesday, not only that but also the end of February? WOAH, where has the time gone?  It just seems like yesterday that my son told us he joined the Army and would be leaving in March.  Well that time is here upon us with him leaving this Sunday.

Today’s card is for Operation Write Home’s* Sketch #110 challenge and incorporates heat embossing for the tutorial challenge. It is also for their Mother’s Day challenge.

    OWHSketch110

The papers on this card are Craftwell card stock and K&Company Julianne specialty paper.

    OWHSketch110_3

The Tuesday tutorial was about heat embossing, which is one of my favorite techniques. I used Hero Arts Poetic Prints Three Butterflies and SU clear embossing powder to get the green-on-green effect.

    OWHSketch110_2

The ribbon is from Really Reasonable Ribbon Swiss Dots Grosgrain Moss ribbon. I added a strip at the bottom that is embossed with a Cuttlebug border embossing folder.  Pearls, flowers, and a sentiment from my computer finish off the card.

    VIVA LA VERVE FEBRUARY WK4

Happy Tuesday sweeties! I am so happy to present this card today because it is an AnyHero card for Operation Write Home*.  AnyHero cards are cards of appreciation sent directly to one of our troops and is therefore very special to me.  I love writing to our men and women in uniform sending encouragement and thanks.

Mynnette at On a Stampage is hosting a Spread the L-O-V-E campaign this year and asks that we send out or gift at least one handmade card or project each week for the rest of 2012 and blog each week about what you've given and, if you feel comfortable, who you've given it to and why.

Of course I don’t know exactly who this is going to but I do know why.  I cannot think of a more personal way of expressing my appreciation to these brave men and women!

I made this card using the Viva La Verve Week 4 CAS sketch…but more about that in a minute. Here is my card:

    VLVFeb2012Wk4

The “Band of Brothers” stamp is from Stampers Best. The “Let Freedom Ring” and stars are from Verve. The stars are embossed in red.

    VLVFeb2012Wk4_4

The Spellbinders Labels Eighteen is popped up with dimensional dots and edged in Camellia VersaColor ink.

    VLVFeb2012Wk4_3

The blue and white papers are from Recollections. The stars paper is from my stash.

    NOW FOR THE CHALLENGES:

    SPECIAL EDITION: LIEBSTER AWARD

“Liebster is German and translates into English as “dearest” or ”favorite”. A Liebster Blog Award is given to talented bloggers who have less than 200 followers. So, in a way the award not only recognizes these bloggers as amazingly gifted in their own right but also as your very own personal favorites.”
    image
    How to participate:
    • Thank your Liebster Blog Award presenter on your blog.
    • Link back to the blogger who presented the award to you.
    • Copy and paste the blog award on your blog.
    • Present the Liebster Blog Award to 5 blogs of 200 followers or less who you feel deserve to be noticed. (Some say just 3 or more blogs of less than 200 followers each)
    • Let them know they have been chosen by leaving a comment at their blog.
“The rules are that the winners have to pay forward to other people whose sites are worth the recognition. If they accept the award, they should: thank the person who nominated them; nominate five other favorite blogs with fewer than 200 followers, and copy/paste the Liebster Blog Icon into their post.”

I cannot tell you how surprised I was this morning when I was going through my blog list and saw my blog won the Liebster Blog award! What a way to start the week, and I hope I can pay it forward by introducing you to 5 of my favorite sites.
But first, I must give a huge THANK YOU to Sandee In The Hills of North Carolina! Her blog is so entertaining and funny.  I love to see her cards but also hear all about what she is up to.  Sandee you are a dear blog friend! Big hugs from the Piedmont of North Carolina!  You really must visit her site to get a few giggles to start your day.
Now for my 5:  (drumroll now………….)
    • Mynnette at On a Stampage: For her Share the Love campaign she deserves to be recognized. Her blog is always filled with kindness and love.
    • Cindy at Card Crazee Me 53: Cindy has such a sweet blog with creations that are always beautiful! She makes me long for a Cricut and produces many lovely cards with hers.
I am new to Operation Write Home* and these next three ladies have given me such great support I have to include them!
    • Yolanda at Imagine. Make. Share: Yolanda was probably one of the first ladies at OWH to leave comments for me. She is a wonder with her creativeness! Just check out those cards!
    • Carol L at Our Little Inspirations: Carol is so sweet and always offers encouraging comments. You must check out her beautiful cards!
    • Lee Mae at Boxes of Dogs: With a blog name like that, what’s not to love? Lee Mae is another lady who has extended much encouragement to me.  Her cards deserve a look because they are just so pretty!
Thank you for stopping by today. I am honored by the award and by your visit.
    hugs,

Viva La Verve! Sketch Challenge for a Friend

Hi and welcome back! This is going to be a week of mixed emotions for me. Our son leaves Sunday for Basic Training. I am so very proud of him, but at the same time sad to see him leave.  I know he made a good choice and will have many exciting times, but a Mom still hates to see her boy young man leave.

Today I am sharing a card I made for a friend. It is for the Viva la Verve challenge for week 3… There, I admitted it…I’m still a week behind….UGH! I need to hurry and get week 4 done!

OK, I’m going to get right to it, so here is my card:

    VLVFEB2012Wk3

I have been purchasing some new DSP and this is one of them!  Actually, two: Both are K&Company: Sweet Nectar and Brenda Walton Postcard Pad. I fell in love with all of the colors and thought it would be fun to mix it up for a change. I am usually pretty predictable so I’m hoping I am showing you cards that you don’t really expect from me.

    VLVFEB2012Wk3_3

Rubber Stamp Tapestry has some new stamp sets and this is one of them! This one is called Polish Inspirations Peg Stamp Set and includes 5 peg stamps (1 Mini, 2 tiny, 2 bitty sizes). I just LOVE these stamps for their flexibility, lovely details, and sweet images. The "Friend" Block Stamp (1" x 1.5") is also from RST.

    VLVFEB2012Wk3_4

Are you in love with that sage seam binding yet? I am! It is so gorgeous and matches the color in this brad perfectly.

    VLVFEB2012Wk3_2

A pretty pink Prima flower, so little blue flowers from AC Moore, purple twine and a Tim Holtz brad finish off my bow.

I really love this sketch and can see me using it again!

    AROUND MY HOUSE

    Christmas rose 2

I am so happy to have flowers blooming all winter. These are my Hellebore Lenten Roses that just love to bloom during the winter. That is specifically why I planted them. I just could not stand going all winter without something pretty to look at.  I just love the purple and green….maybe that is why I am using those colors so much lately!

    NOW FOR THE CHALLENGES

Here is the Viva La Verve week 3 sketch:

In addition to this challenge, I made this card for:

Mynnette’s Spread the L-O-V-E challenge since this is going to a new friend of mine!
